Chris Down - Chartered IT Professionalcitp-logocolour-smallNo less an intellect than Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get a different result. I keep this in mind in everything that I do in my life and in what I do for my clients.

I cannot claim an intellect on a par with Albert but I have over 30 years of business experience and I have made a point of analysing and learning and adapting.

I most certainly don’t do the same thing over and over and my skills and experience cover a wide range of business activities and market sectors.

For those of you who do not already know me, or have not done business with me in the past, this site will give you a flavour of what I do and what I can do for you.  If you do know me, or have done business with me then hopefully you will find out a few things that you didn’t know before.

Engineering & IT

I graduated in Civil Engineering in 1982 and from then until the end of 1989 I worked in structural engineering specialising in the seismic design of concrete structures in the nuclear industry, mostly reprocessing plants for BNFL (now Sellafield Limited) but also the Sizewell B nuclear power station. My speciality was coming up with innovative solutions to the unique challenges presented by these projects. These were heady days in both the nuclear industry and structural engineering with lots of investment and the first reliable design software becoming available on personal computers.

In late 1989 I was offered a position with one of the major UK engineering software houses and for the next 21 years I worked in a variety of roles, there and at three more engineering software companies.  My roles always had a commercial element but included tasks as diverse as project managing new software developments, representing the company on standards committees, writing software specifications, software testing, user support, training, marketing and sales.

In 1998 the technical aspects of my work in the computer software companies was recognised by the British Computer Society when I was elected as a Member (MBCS), this was rapidly followed by the granting of Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and recognition as Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP).

In my recent years the commercial content of my roles has come to dominate, managing accounts with annual software spends up to £450k per annum. Using my long experience and commercial skills I am able to ensure that contracts are negotiated to the maximum benefit of my clients whether they are selling or buying engineering software systems. For more on these services click here.

Sales & Marketing

Over the years I have developed extensive contacts in the structural engineering, power, process and oil & gas industries; more importantly by always being fair to me clients I have a sound reputation.

My communication skills have been put to good use over the years in the design of marketing material as diverse as scripts for telemarketing, printed brochures and web sites. I have a good practical understanding of the latest on line marketing methods and wide experience in the black art of optimising web sites for the best search engine rankings.

For one of my clients I created a complete “virtual office” in a new overseas market; this included local web site and e-mail, postal address and e-mail addresses for communications, local telephone number and a local telemarketing campaign.

Anything is possible!

Photography

I am not a professional photographer but I am more than competent and I have taken all the gallery pictures on TightsFashion and StockingsFashion.  I am available for small low budget product shoots or anything else that seems interesting.

With photography the project is more important than the money!
